Hi I’m Wendy

Urban Media Designer, Choreographer, Creative Coder, Interaction PROGRAMER, Dancer

Hi! I’m Wendy, I’m an Australian artist who loves immersive new urban design. I have a background in dance which I was able to explore through a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne. I love making dance and dancing myself, but, I kept thinking, “wow, why is art and technology and immersive design is seducing me so much”. So I continued an exploration of dance and immersive design through projection art which I was able to get into through a residency with the Centre for Projection Art in Melbourne.

From There I was thinking, I NEED MORE, so I embarked on a Masters of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts at the University of Sydney to dip my toes into interaction design, programming, web development and human centered design research. Completing it with a dissertation on researching the significance of breakdance in urban media experiences. That was so fun to do.

Throughout my time in projection, I’ve been so lucky and thankful to have been able to present work around the world. My mission statement has been to elevate local communities of dance through projection design. I think this is important as urban media holds the ability to broadcast dance to a wider and more diverse form of audience, which is incredibly significant as a process of representing the existing communities of dance in a local area.

I continue to be incredibly inspired by the projection design space, I have more so been integrating themes of destruction in my work too. Being highly inspired by the book, “The World Without Us”, by Alan Weisman, I have been integrating 3D elements to create anamorphic designs that jump out towards the viewer by building it in 3D geometry and manipulating optical illusions.

I’ve been lucky to have received the Youth Excellence Award in the New Media Art Division of the “Think Youth” Shanghai Digital Creation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship International Competition in 2022. And in 2023, the “2023 International Chinese Outstanding Youth” award.
